2020 Is Going to Be a Busy Year for #Fight4HER, and We Want You to Be a Part of It!

#Fight4HER is already getting busy in 2020, training a bunch of new organizers in Ohio this week!

In November, Americans will be voting for a (hopefully new) president. In addition, each of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs, as are 35 of the 100 Senate seats (see our current list of endorsements here). It’s crucial that we elect officials who will positively shape the future of reproductive rights both here at home and around the world. That’s why, as the new year begins, we are committed to continuing and strengthening the #Fight4HER campaign to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has access to reproductive health care.

We’ll be working to grow the #Fight4HER campaign, getting more people fired up to fight for global reproductive rights and demanding that candidates who want our vote in 2020 do the same. We’re fighting to:

  1. Elect a president who will repeal Trump’s Global Gag Rule.
  2. Elect congressional candidates who will end his Global Gag Rule by passing the Global Health, Empowerment, and Rights (HER) Act in case, heaven forbid, Trump is reelected.
  3. Elect a president who condemns the deadly Helms Amendment, which has been part of the Foreign Assistance Act each year since 1973.
  4. Elect members of Congress who actually have the ability to end Helms each year when the Foreign Assistance Act is reauthorized.
  5. Ensure access to safe, affordable, and comprehensive reproductive health care for people in the United States and around the world.

With the support of our grassroots activists, #Fight4HER has engaged over 53,000 people and held over 1,700 events in communities across the country. We’ve come a long way, but we need your help to continue the fight into 2020. You can join the #Fight4HER and be a part of a grassroots reproductive freedom movement!

Here’s what we have planned for 2020:

We’re starting the year off strong! On January 23 — the third anniversary of the imposition of Trump’s Global Gag Rule — #Fight4HER activists across the country will be holding events to protest the terrible policy and the devastating and deadly impacts it has had worldwide.

From March 27 – 30, #Fight4HER activists will come together in Washington, DC, for Capitol Hill Days 2020. They’ll spend the weekend participating in hands-on advocacy trainings and workshops on global reproductive health and rights. On the last day, they’ll head to Capitol Hill to meet with their senators and representatives and advocate for a permanent repeal of Trump’s Global Gag Rule, for a renewal of funding for UNFPA, and for a $1.6 billion investment in international family planning. You can learn more about CHD 2020 and register here.

We’ll be hosting our third annual Summer of HER and Summit Series in key states across the country, focusing on mobilizing the power of our movement for the 2020 election. Like in years past, #Fight4HER activists will gather in key battleground states to attend workshops on reproductive health and trainings on grassroots organizing. It’s an opportunity for activists to hone their skills, hear from pro-choice elected officials, and meet others who share their passion.

As individuals, our voices are most loudly heard at the polls, so #Fight4HER activists will also be on the ground ensuring that people are registered to vote. They’ll be volunteering at voter registration drives and talking to members of their communities about the importance of supporting pro-choice candidates who will stand up for global reproductive rights and health.

In the fall, it’ll be time to get out the vote! Across the country, our activists will be knocking on doors and making phone calls for the pro-choice candidates we’ve endorsed. We’re hopeful that we’ll see all of our efforts pay off on Election Day with a progressive, pro-choice president and Senate majority poised to take office and take a stand for reproductive rights around the world.

It’s going to be a busy year for #Fight4HER, and we want you to be a part of it. Join us and make 2020 the year you defend reproductive rights! You can also keep up with what’s going on at #Fight4HER at our website, on Twitter, on Instagram, and on Facebook.
