Are you quarantined at home but still itching for ways to engage in digital activism? Trump’s deadly Global Gag Rule hasn’t stopped harming people around the world amidst the pandemic, so we’re not stopping our fight to end it. While we’ve moved our fight online to practice social distancing and keep our communities safe, we can still make a difference in the #Fight4HER. Here are four ways you can take digital action in the #Fight4HER from the comfort of your home!
Step One: Join our national volunteer call
Grassroots organizers, activists, and volunteers are coming together for a Zoom call TONIGHT, Wednesday, May 20, at 7:30pm ET to kick off our Summer of HER (Health, Empowerment, and Rights)! The call will be an action-packed hour, and we will be joined by reproductive health and rights champion Congressman Ami Bera (CA-7) to go over:
- An inside look at the #Fight4HER campaign strategy and how we will win this November
- Actions YOU can take immediately to tear down restrictions to reproductive freedom
- The opportunity to build community with other reproductive health and rights activists from across the country
Our call is happening tonight, at 7:30pm ET! Sign up to join us today, and we’ll send everything you need to join in.
Step Two: Tune in for our Twitter chat
Participating in a Twitter chat by reading, liking, retweeting, and replying to tweets is a great way to stay engaged and informed! Tomorrow, Thursday, May 21, at 1:00pm ET, we’ll be hosting a Twitter chat with Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng (Dr. T), a medical doctor, author, and reproductive justice activist from South Africa, and Dennis Carter, Senior News Editor for @Rewire.News. This Twitter chat will focus on discussing the impacts of U.S. funding policies such as the Global Gag Rule and on access to reproductive health care in South Africa. Follow along @PopConnect with the hashtag #Fight4HER to engage.
Step Three: Sign our petition, then send it to five friends
Join the #Fight4HER by calling on your senators and representative to repeal Trump’s Global Gag Rule. This petition urges Congress to support the Global HER Act, which will repeal the Global Gag Rule and prevent future presidents from reinstating it. After signing, post the petition on social media and send it to to five friends and family members to help us grow our movement. You can find a sample graphic to share on social media here.
Step Four: Write a letter to the editor (LTE)
An LTE is a great way to voice your opinions and advocate for an issue you care deeply about. It’s usually short and centers on a recent news issue or article and is submitted to a newspaper of your choice. You can find more information about how to craft an LTE and see some templates in one of our earlier blog posts here. And you can also find some excellent talking points, important information, and statistics to enhance your LTE on our #Fight4HER website.
Even with just a few clicks, your actions can make an immense impact on the future of reproductive rights around the world. Digital action is vital for our movement—take a few minutes out of your quarantine now to make your voice heard.
