#Fight4HER’s Top 5 Reasons That Martha McSally Has Got to Go

Trisha Maharaj, Grassroots Advocacy & Outreach Fellow

After two years in the Senate, one thing is for sure: Arizona Senator Martha McSally is kind of the worst. To explain why, we’ve compiled a list of the top five reasons why McSally can’t be allowed to lead for another four years.

5. She’s buddies with Trump.

Trump considers McSally a friend, and it’s clear why. She’s spoken at his rallies. She had his back during the impeachment hearings. She’s voted in line with his policies and positions almost 95% of the time. Instead of working in the best interest of her constituents, she’s working to further Trump’s agenda. Which is why…

4. She won’t co-sponsor the Global HER Act.

McSally doesn’t want to repeal Trump’s Global Gag Rule because she supports this terrible policy. She voted to confirm Andrew Bremburg, who helped craft Trump’s expanded version of the policy, as the U.S. representative to the United Nations, despite the fact that the Global Gag Rule has cut off access to comprehensive reproductive health care for millions of people around the world. That makes sense when you remember that…

3. She doesn’t think reproductive health care is “actual” health care.

When called out on her atrocious voting record in support of defunding Planned Parenthood, McSally’s office responded that she was “focused on providing access to actual health care.” We need senators who know that reproductive health care is actually essential and will stand up, and fight for, reproductive health and rights for everyone, everywhere. But that might be too much to expect from McSally considering…

2. She doesn’t care about her constituents’ health.

The wellbeing of Arizonans just isn’t a top priority for McSally, who, back in August, encouraged her supporters to “fast a meal” if necessary to donate to her campaign. But this wasn’t the first time that she’s put her politics before her constituents. She has voted for the Domestic Gag Rule and repealing the Affordable Care Act, threatening the health care of over a million people in the state and going against the will of a majority of Arizonans. But McSally ignored her constituents, so you can understand why….

1. No one elected her.

In fact, she lost the Senate race in 2018 to Kyrsten Sinema. She was later appointed to fill John McCain’s seat by Arizona’s decidedly anti-choice governor, Doug Ducey. The people of Arizona made it clear that they did not want her to represent them in the Senate, but got stuck with her anyway.

This list could go on and on. But this November, we have the opportunity to get rid of Martha McSally. It’s time that both of Arizona’s senators reflect the will of the people and stand up for the health and rights of all. Martha McSally has shown us again and again that she will not fight for anyone besides Trump and herself. That’s why our #Fight4HER activists in Arizona are hard at work getting out the vote for Mark Kelly, who will champion reproductive freedom in the United States and around the world. Sign up today and join the fight in Arizona to elect leaders like Mark Kelly, who are committed to the #Fight4HER.
