Our January Volunteer Call Recap

Lindsay Apperson, National Field Manager

After a year that brought so much uncertainty, we were grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our huge wins with nearly 80 #Fight4HER activists on our January National Volunteer Call. With the help of our volunteers and activists, we’re ready to push forward a progressive agenda on reproductive rights and health.

Just hours before our call on January 28, President Biden lifted the Global Gag Rule through a presidential memorandum, and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) re-introduced the Global HER Act in the Senate and House, respectively, to ensure a permanent, legislative repeal of this deadly policy. Attendees heard from volunteer leaders, Population Connection Action Fund staff, and activists about what we can do to pass the Global HER Act so that no future president can ever unilaterally reinstate the Global Gag Rule again.

If you missed our national call, here are a few quick actions you can take to make sure we keep building momentum to permanently end the Global Gag Rule:

  1. Thank President Biden for repealing the Global Gag Rule: We need to make sure President Biden knows that the American people are grateful that he rescinded the Global Gag Rule and that we’re looking forward to him signing the Global HER Act into law to permanently repeal this devastating policy.
  2. Contact your senators and representative and ask them to sign on as co-sponsors of the Global HER Act: You can use this link to send an email, tweet at, and call your elected officials’ offices with just a few clicks.
  3. Submit a letter to the editor in your local newspaper: An LTE is a great way to make your voice heard. The link above will take you to a sample LTE and information on how to submit your letter. Feel free to reach out to Lindsay at lapperson@popconnect.org if you have any questions or need help submitting your letter.
  4. If you’re financially able, make a donation: We’re gearing up to make sure that we can keep up the fight for reproductive health and rights in 2021, but we can’t do that without support from our generous donors. Just $10 can make a huge difference.

We’re so grateful for all you do and are looking forward to continuing our fight for reproductive health and rights around the world.
