Population Connection Action Fund Endorses Ann Kirkpatrick for U.S. Senate

5- Ann KirkpatrickPopulation Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Ann Kirkpatrick for election to the United States Senate from Arizona. Representative Kirkpatrick, a longtime supporter of women’s rights and reproductive health, earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.

“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse a candidate who has used her voice to repeatedly defend women’s reproductive rights for election to the United States Senate,” said John Seager, president and CEO of Population Connection Action Fund. “Despite increased attacks on women’s clinics and health in her state, Kirkpatrick has repeatedly worked and voted for progress and women’s rights to choice.”

Rep. Kirkpatrick, who will be running against Senator John McCain, has worked tirelessly to protect access to affordable contraceptives for women across the United States and around the world. She has also co-sponsored Women’s Health Protection Act to prevent limitations on access to safe abortion services as well as legislation to block the imposition of the Global Gag Rule – a shortsighted and harmful policy that denies U.S. assistance to the most effective and respected providers of family planning services in the developing world.  On the other hand, Sen. McCain, who recently said he would vote for Donald Trump should he be the Republican Party’s nominee for the presidential race, has called for Roe v. Wade to be overturned, voted repeatedly to deny health services to millions of Americans who rely on Planned Parenthood clinics for care and to hamstring family planning programs serving women in the poorest parts of the world.

“Congresswoman Kirkpatrick will bring needed energy and commitment improving the lives of women everywhere to the U.S. Senate and we’re proud to support her,” added Seager.
