Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Ben Ray Luján for election to the United States Senate.

Brian Dixon, Senior Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund, said, “Ben Ray Luján has demonstrated real commitment to improving the lives of people throughout his time in public service. New Mexico and our country have been well served by his work and would be well served by sending him to the U.S. Senate.”

The policies being promoted by the Trump/Pence Administration are undermining reproductive health and freedom around the world. The Global Gag Rule is shuttering health clinics and cutting off access to care. The refusal to release aid to the United Nations Population Fund denies crucial maternal and reproductive health care to people in desperate circumstances. The ongoing attacks on Planned Parenthood threaten to deny millions of Americans the health care they need. The continued effort to undermine the Affordable Care Act could strip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and others struggling to pay for care.

“I am committed to building strong global health programs and defending reproductive freedom for people everywhere. The Global Gag Rule and its domestic counterpart are closing clinics, undermining public health and hurting families,” said Luján. “I’m proud to join Population Connection Action Fund in the fight for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere.”

Dixon added, “Ben Ray Luján is standing up to the shortsighted, misguided cruelty of this administration. Ben Ray Luján is standing up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. Ben Ray Luján is fighting for the rights of all people to choose their own futures. Ben Ray Luján is fighting for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. We are proud to stand with him.”
