Population Connection Action Fund Congratulates President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris
Statement from Brian Dixon, Population Connection Action Fund’s senior vice president for media and government relations:
We are thrilled to congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.
The election results have brought forth a range of emotions, from relief to excitement. Relief that four years of cruelty, chaos, and corruption are coming to an end. Relief that four years of using the power of the United States to limit freedom around the world rather than expand it is ending. Relief that the regular encouragement of white supremacist violence will no longer come from the White House. Excitement at the prospect of a Biden-Harris administration that will be guided by evidence and science. Excitement at the prospect of ending dangerous policies like the Global Gag Rule. Excitement over the chance for real action to promote health, empowerment, and rights for people around the world.
It’s an historic election, with countless important implications for the future of our country and our entire planet. The world has a lot of problems, but by winning today, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris solved one of the most serious.
International Health Care Expert Applauds President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris
Statement from Melvine Ouyo, former Kibera clinic director for Family Health Options Kenya:
The election of Joe Biden is a victory for all women, girls, and many other marginalized and vulnerable communities in the United States and across the world. The past four years were full of struggle, pain, and loss of lives for lack of access to reproductive resources and essential health care services. Under Trump’s Global Gag Rule, clinics were forced to close and communities lost access to family planning services, cancer screenings, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and many other services. Joe Biden’s victory is an historic one for global accessible and affordable health care.
