Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Chris Van Hollen for election to the United States Senate from Maryland. Congressman Van Hollen, a champion for gender equality and women’s reproductive health and rights, earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to stand with a candidate that has stood for women’s rights for election to the United States Senate,” said John Seager, president and CEO of Population Connection Action Fund. “Congressman Van Hollen has voted and worked for increased access to reproductive health for all women at every turn.”
Despite increased attacks on women’s reproductive rights, Van Hollen has not only voted to prevent limitations on abortion access, but also co-sponsored bills to provide emergency contraception to survivors of rape and at military facilities. He has also stood against efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and Title X and helped pass a law to codify abortion rights into state law so that the women of Maryland will continue to have access to abortion regardless of attacks on Roe vs. Wade. A steadfast supporter of comprehensive sex education and contraceptives, Van Hollen has worked tirelessly to increase access to both.
“Congressman Van Hollen will continue his valuable work to improve the lives of women in the U.S. Senate and we’re proud to support him,” added Seager.
