Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Schultz earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse Rep. Schultz for reelection,” said John Seager, President and CEO of Population Connection Action Fund. “She has been a strong advocate for equality and women’s reproductive rights.”
Rep. Schultz has consistently been a leader for expanding and protecting women’s reproductive rights. She has voted for and co-sponsored bills to prevent limitations on women’s access to abortions and increase emergency contraceptives. In addition to working for women’s rights at home, Rep. Schultz has been outspoken on the importance of providing women abroad with abortion services in the case of incest, rape or danger to the live of the woman, by clarifying the Helms Amendment. In 2015, she called on Secretary of State John Kerry to look into the misinterpretation of Helms Amendment, which could otherwise help thousands of women around the world. As the Head of Democratic National Committee, Rep. Schultz spoke out and defended women’s right to access safe abortions several times when attacked by Senator Rand Paul and others.
“When it comes to weighing personal medical decisions, I trust women. I trust women to make their own decisions about what is best for their bodies and their families. To that end, I will continue to be a staunch advocate for a woman’s right to access all legal, safe resources for planning her family,” Rep. Schultz writes on her website.
