Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng United Nations Appointment

Population Connection and Population Connection Action Fund are proud to celebrate the appointment of Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health. We also recognize the historic nature of her appointment, as the first Black African woman to hold this position.

Dr. Mofokeng, known as “Dr. T,” is an OB/GYN and author of Dr. T: A Guide to Sexual Health and Pleasure, and has served as a commissioner on South Africa’s Commission for Gender Equality. She is a fierce and powerful advocate for reproductive health and justice. We are both fortunate and proud to have worked closely with her for several years.

Now, people around the world are fortunate to have someone so dedicated to ensuring access to comprehensive health care — including safe and legal abortion — fighting for them in the United Nations.

We wish her success in this new role, where she will help lead the fight for the health, empowerment, and rights of everyone, everywhere.
