Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Joyce Beatty (D-OH) for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Beatty, an advocate for women’s rights worldwide, earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse Joyce Beatty for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives,” said John Seager, president of Population Connection Action Fund.
During her time in Congress, Beatty has voted to protect women’s access to health care and abortion services at every turn. She has supported efforts to expand and strengthen family planning and reproductive health care services across the United States and around the world. She has opposed efforts to impose the Global Gag Rule, to bar assistance to the United Nations Population Fund and to slash desperately needed funding for women’s health providers in the developing world. She has co-sponsored Women’s Health Protection Act to prevent limitations on women’s access to safe, legal abortion. Last year, she was among the dozens of representatives to call on the reinterpretation of Helms Amendment to allow U.S. funding for abortion services abroad in the case of rape, incest and danger to the life of women.
“Rep. Beatty has worked hard to defend women’s rights and we are excited to help bring her back to the House,” Seager added.
