Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Mike Quigley (D-IL) for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Quigley earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse Rep. Quigley for reelection,” said John Seager, President and CEO of Population Connection Action Fund. “He has been a champion for women’s reproductive rights.”
Rep. Quigley has used his voice and vote to protect women’s reproductive rights at the House of Representatives. He has voted for continued financial support for the United Nations Population Fund. He has voted to increase access to emergency contraceptives. In 2014, Rep. Quigley offered an amendment to ensure that the federal government could not prevent Washington D.C. from using its own funds to provide abortion services for low-income women. A member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, Rep. Quigley has previously worked against legislation that would make it difficult for rape and incest survivors to receive abortion services and efforts to ban abortion after 20 weeks. In addition, Rep. Quigley was among members of Congress who called for repealing the Hyde Amendment. He has also advocated for reinterpreting the Helms Amendment to allow the U.S. to provide abortion services to women abroad in the case of incest, rape or life-threatening circumstances.
“As advocates for choice, we must be resilient. We must not let politicians, who believe they are above the Constitution, interfere with the personal health decisions of women. It is the job of a woman, not a politician, to make informed decisions about her own pregnancy,” Rep. Quigley recently wrote in an op-ed.
