Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Chris Pappas for Congress from New Hampshire’s 1st District.

Brian Dixon, the Sr. Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund, said, “Whether it’s in his family’s iconic restaurant, as a community activist and leader, or on the Executive Council, Chris Pappas is about service to others. He has fought to protect access to health care for people who rely on Planned Parenthood. He is exactly the kind of person we need in Congress at a time when chaos and cruelty are the primary agenda of the current majority.”

The Republican majority in Congress has aggressively promoted an agenda of casual cruelty. The Global Gag Rule is shuttering health clinics in the poorest parts of the world. The refusal to release aid to the United Nations Population Fund is denying crucial maternal and reproductive health care to people in desperate circumstances. The ongoing attacks on Planned Parenthood threaten to deny millions of Americans the health care they need. The continued effort to undermine the Affordable Care Act could strip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and others struggling to pay for care. Pappas’ opponent promises to be another vote for these and other disgraceful policies.

“I am proud to receive the support of Population Connection Action Fund in this race,” said Pappas. “I’m particularly inspired by the work they are doing to end the Global Gag Rule, a policy that is putting so many women and families in danger all around the world. I’m committed to a future without a Global Gag Rule, and as a member of Congress I will do everything in my power to defend and expand women’s reproductive rights here in the United States and beyond.”

Dixon added, “It is time for Congress to stand up to the shortsighted, misguided cruelty of this administration and congress. It is time for Congress to stand up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. It is time for Congress to stand up for the rights of all people to choose their own futures. Chris Pappas will stand up and fight for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. We are proud to stand with him.
