Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Haley Stevens for re-election to the United States House of Representatives.

Brian Dixon, Senior Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund, said, “We’re proud to endorse Haley Stevens for re-election to Congress. She has shown herself to be a leader and a champion for people everywhere.”

The policies being promoted by the Trump/Pence Administration are undermining reproductive health and freedom around the world. The Global Gag Rule is shuttering health clinics and cutting off access to care. The refusal to release aid to the United Nations Population Fund denies crucial maternal and reproductive health care to people in desperate circumstances. The ongoing attacks on Planned Parenthood threaten to deny millions of Americans the health care they need. The continued effort to undermine the Affordable Care Act could strip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and others struggling to pay for care.

Rep. Stevens has been steadfast in her opposition to these policies. “Investment in people – especially girls and women around the world – is critical to building a healthier, more stable world,” said Stevens. “Policies like the Global Gag Rule that undermine global health and reduce access to affordable contraceptives are both cruel and counterproductive. In the 116th Congress, I have stood for family planning by voting to fund the United Nations Population Fund, repeal the Global Gag Rule, and opposing attempts to restrict access to contraceptives and family planning resources.”

Dixon added, “Haley Stevens is standing up to the shortsighted, misguided cruelty of this administration. Haley Stevens is standing up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. Haley Stevens is fighting for the rights of all people to choose their own futures. Haley Stevens is fighting for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. Voters in Michigan’s 11th District are lucky to have a fighter like her on their side. We are proud to stand with her.”
