Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Jeramey Anderson for Congress in Mississippi’s 4th district.
Brian Dixon, the Sr. Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund, said, “Candidates like Jeramey Anderson don’t come along every day. At 16 he was running a non-profit to help his community. At 22 he was elected to the State Legislature and immediately starting making a positive impact. He’s already spent a decade looking for solutions to problems faced by his community. He’s exactly the kind of person we need in Congress, and we can’t wait to see what he does when he gets there.”
The Republican majority in Congress has aggressively promoted an agenda of casual cruelty. The Global Gag Rule is shuttering health clinics in the poorest parts of the world. The refusal to release aid to the United Nations Population Fund is denying crucial maternal and reproductive health care to people in desperate circumstances. The ongoing attacks on Planned Parenthood threaten to deny millions of Americans the health care they need. The continued effort to undermine the Affordable Care Act could strip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and others struggling to pay for care.
“Too many people, in Mississippi and around the world are being denied access to reproductive health care because of cruel policies promoted by politicians in Washington,” said Anderson. “The Global Gag Rule is undermining public health, women’s autonomy and family stability. When I’m in Congress I will fight policies that improve health, empower women and ensure human rights for all.”
Dixon added, “It is time for Congress to stand up to the shortsighted, misguided cruelty of this administration and congress. It is time for Congress to stand up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. It is time for Congress to stand up for the rights of all people to choose their own futures. Jeramey Anderson will stand up and fight for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. We are proud to stand with him.
