Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Kathleen Williams for Congress from Montana.

Brian Dixon, the Sr. Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund said, “Rep. Williams has been a strong and outspoken leader in Helena. She has been a champion for gender equity, women’s opportunity and reproductive freedom. She will be a strong voice for these same things in Congress and she offers the best opportunity to defeat the incumbent, Greg Gianforte.”

Since joining Congress, Gianforte has been a reliable enabler of Donald Trump’s agenda of casual cruelty. He supports Trump’s disgraceful Global Gag Rule, that is cutting off access to critical health care to people throughout the developing world. He has joined Trump’s effort to strip health care coverage from vulnerable Americans and deny care to people who rely on Planned Parenthood clinics across our country. He has enabled Trump’s elimination of aid to UNFPA – an agency providing access to birth control and other important services to struggling families in 150 countries, including providing maternal health care to Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Rep. Williams said, “I am absolutely committed to ensuring family planning resources both at home and abroad. At home, I will work to stop the war on Planned Parenthood, which was my primary health provider when I was starting my career. Abroad, we must keep health clinics open: they provide crucial healthcare services and create opportunities for women and girls everywhere. Those opportunities will help form the bedrock for a more peaceful world.”

Dixon added, “It’s time for Congress to stand up to this shortsighted, misguided cruelty. It’s time for Congress to stand up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. It’s time for Congress to stand up for the rights of all people to choose their own futures. Kathleen Williams has made clear that she will stand up and fight for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. We are proud to stand with her.”
