Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Lauren Baer for the U.S. Congress from Florida’s 18th District.

Brian Dixon, the Sr. Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund said, “Lauren Baer has dedicated her professional life to promoting and defending human rights for all people – especially those must vulnerable to abuse. That’s exactly the kind of dedication we need in Congress. And she offers the best opportunity to replace Brian Mast – who has enabled the Trump administration to dismantle American leadership on global health, women’s empowerment, human rights, and LGBTQ equality.”

Mast has consistently enabled Donald Trump’s agenda of casual cruelty. He supported the imposition of the disgraceful Global Gag Rule, cutting off access to critical health care to people throughout the developing world. He joined in to help Trump’s effort to strip health care coverage from vulnerable Americans and deny care to people who rely on Planned Parenthood clinics across our country. He supported Trump’s elimination of aid to UNFPA – an agency providing access to birth control and other important services to struggling families in 150 countries, including providing maternal health care to Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Lauren Baer said, “I am thrilled to have the endorsement of the Population Connection Action Fund. Both in the United States and around the world, women’s reproductive freedom is key to their economic freedom and their ability to lead full and independent lives. I look forward to working with the Fund to preserve U.S. investments in critical global reproductive health programs.”

Dixon added, “It’s time for Congress to stand up to this shortsighted, misguided cruelty. It’s time for Congress to stand up for the victims of human rights violations, not the violators. It’s time for Congress to stand up for the rights of all people to choose their own futures. Lauren Baer has made clear that she will stand up and fight for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. We are proud to stand with her.”
