Population Connection Action Fund announced that it has endorsed Marie Newman for Congress in Illinois’ 3rd district.

Brian Dixon, the Sr. Vice President at Population Connection Action Fund, said, “Marie Newman is a committed champion for reproductive health and rights for people everywhere. We need representatives like Ms. Newman: someone who understands the need to invest in people; who will fight for equality, autonomy and dignity; and who will stand against the daily assaults on these values coming from the White House and from Dan Lipinski.”

There are at least 214 million women in the developing world who want to prevent or delay pregnancy, but have an unmet need for contraceptives. Unsafe abortion remains a serious public health challenge in many countries. Investment in reproductive health and family planning programs are crucial to building healthier families, communities and countries.

“We need to be expanding access to reproductive health care everywhere, but Congressman Lipinski has joined the Trump administration and the Republicans in Congress in their cruel campaign to impose gag rules on family planning agencies around the world and to shut down Planned Parenthood clinics and strip care from the 3 million Americans who rely on them. He has helped raise money for extremist organizations who seek to ban all legal abortion,” continued Dixon.

“I am honored to have the support of Population Connection Action Fund, one of the leading organizations working to protect women’s health and promote family planning efforts both in the United States and abroad,” said Ms. Newman

Dixon added, “Marie Newman will stand up and fight for health, empowerment and rights for people everywhere. We are proud to stand with her.”
