Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Ron Wyden for reelection to the United States Senate from Oregon. Senator Wyden, a champion for women’s reproductive rights, earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse a candidate who has stood tall in defense of women’s rights for reelection to the United States Senate,” said John Seager, president and CEO of Population Connection Action Fund. “Senator Wyden has consistently advocated for protecting the reproductive rights and health of women and increasing access to health care.”
Sen. Wyden who will be running against Sen. Jeff Merkley, has been a strong proponent of women’s reproductive rights in the Senate. He has supported international aid for family planning and voted for continued funding for Planned Parenthood. In addition to fighting every limitation placed on access to safe abortions, Sen. Wyden has co-sponsored Women’s Health Protection Act, advocated for increased access to emergency contraceptives and sex education.
“Roe made it clear that, under the Constitution, a woman’s reproductive health decisions are hers to make and hers alone. Extremists are stepping up their attacks on reproductive rights and it is up to all of us to stand firm and keep fighting back,” Sen. Wyden has said about his dedication to the cause.
