Brian Dixon, senior vice president of media and government relations at Population Connection Action Fund, said:
“We are heartened by, and grateful for, the important steps taken today by the Chairwoman Nita Lowey and the House Appropriation Committee toward expanding reproductive health care services and defending the reproductive autonomy of people around the world.
Since his very first day in office, Trump has promoted an agenda of gratuitous cruelty and caused enormous harm to vulnerable people around the world. His Global Gag Rule is stripping crucial care from millions. His refusal to aid the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is undermining global efforts to provide contraceptives, end child marriage, provide emergency obstetric care and reduce gender based violence. For millions of people, it’s been a threat to their lives and their futures. For Trump, it’s business as usual.
The State Department and Foreign Operations bill brought forward today will repeal the Global Gag Rule once and for all. It will restore crucial support to UNFPA. And it will take steps to reverse the damage done to reproductive health services over the past two years.
We look forward to working with Chairwoman Lowey and the committee to continue the fight for health, empowerment and rights, to continuing the #Fight4HER.”
