Brian Dixon, senior vice president of media and government relations at Population Connection Action Fund, said:
“We applaud the House for passing this important bill that will repeal the disgraceful Global Gag Rule and make a crucial investment in global reproductive health and family planning programs.
The Trump administration’s assault on reproductive health and rights is having devastating consequences for people around the world. Clinics are closing. Services are being cut back. People are losing access to their only source of health care. And, even if you take the proponents of the Global Gag Rule at their word – and you shouldn’t – that they only want to reduce abortion, their policy is an abject failure. Research shows that it, in fact, causes an increase in unsafe abortion. It is both cruel and stupid.
Ensuring access to reproductive health care is a crucial element of improving global health and of building healthier, safer and more prosperous families, communities and countries. It needs to be a foreign policy and foreign assistance priority. And this bill makes sure that it is.”
