Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Steve Santarsiero (D-PA) for election to the U.S. House of Representatives. As a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Santarsiero has built a solid record of support for reproductive rights and comprehensive health services.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse Steve Santarsiero for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives,” said John Seager, president of Population Connection Action Fund. “Rep. Santarsiero has spoken out against attacks on women’s reproductive rights in Pennsylvania and advocated for increased rights and access.”
Rep. Santarsiero has voted against limiting access to reproductive care. He has also supported funding for Planned Parenthood and stood up to a proposed invasive ultrasound bill in Pennsylvania. His opponent, on the other hand, offers more of the same extremism on women’s health that his brother—the current incumbent—has practiced.
“I will not be silenced by the reckless Republican majority that is trying to force one of the most draconian anti-abortion bills through the PA State House. I’m fighting back to make sure that women aren’t pushed into back alleys for reproductive health care,” Rep. Santarsiero recently wrote in reaction to a PA bill that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks.
“At every turn, Rep. Santarsiero has fought for women’s reproductive health and rights despite attacks by Tea Party extremists. That’s the kind of person of we need in Washington, where he will stand firm against the near constant efforts to deny women across the United States and around the world access to affordable contraceptives and safe abortion. We are proud to support someone who is dedicated to progress in the U.S. Congress,” Seager added.
