Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Ted Strickland for United States Senate from Ohio.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse a progressive voice for women’s rights for election to the United States Senate,” said John Seager, President and CEO of Population Connection Action Fund.
While Governor Strickland has, among other things, spoken out on women’s right to affordable contraception and voted against banning U.S. funding for family planning abroad, his opponent, Senator Rob Portman, has co-sponsored anti-woman bills such as the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act and voted against funding for international family planning. He has also voted to defund Planned Parenthood and co-sponsored a law to allow bosses to deny women birth control. Senator Portman is also among the obstructionists who refuse to do their job and vote for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee. He has also spoken against Roe v. Wade and called for a repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
Gov. Strickland has stated, “When it comes to women’s health, I believe a woman’s healthcare choices are between a woman and her doctor, not between a woman and her boss.”
“We appreciate Gov. Strickland’s eagerness to stand up for women around the world, and we’re proud to stand up for him in this campaign,” added Seager.
