Population Connection Action Fund, the political arm of Population Connection and America’s population movement, announced today its endorsement of Tim Ryan (D-OH) for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Ryan earned a 100 percent score on the Action Fund’s 2015-2016 Congressional Report Card.
“Population Connection Action Fund is proud to endorse Tim Ryan for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives,” said John Seager, president of Population Connection Action Fund.
From his position on the House Appropriations Committee, Ryan has been a leader in efforts to increase access to contraceptives, sex education and family planning for girls and women at home and around the world. He has fought to secure aid to the United Nations Population Fund, to oppose the Global Gag Rule and to ensure U.S.’s contribution to global family planning efforts. He has voted against limitations on women’s access to abortion and ending funding to Planned Parenthood and worked on increased access to contraceptives among low-income women.
“Where government does have the ability to play a significant role is in giving women and families the tools they need to prevent unintended pregnancies by expanding education and access to contraception. We must get past the ignorance, fear and — yes — discrimination against women that lead to restrictions on contraception and age-appropriate sex education,” Ryan wrote in his op-ed for the Akron Beacon Journal.
“Congressman Ryan has stood up and spoken up for girls, women and families everywhere. We are proud to stand with him” Seager added.
