Brian Dixon, Sr. Vice President for Media and Government Relations for Population Connection Action Fund, released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s decision on UNFPA funding.

“In their latest ploy to strip access to family planning and reproductive health care from millions of people around the world, the Trump administration has barred aid from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the third year in a row.

UNFPA provides critical services in more than 150 countries to increase access to contraceptives, eliminate harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and child marriage, and provide emergency maternal and reproductive health services. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is propagating false claims about the UNFPA’s work and undermining its important role in promoting voluntary family planning.

The administration’s decision to withhold funding from UNFPA is a senseless attack on the freedom, autonomy, and empowerment of vulnerable people around the world that will continue to have life-threatening consequences.”
