In a stunning disregard for fiscal responsibility, the Trump administration is preparing to destroy nearly $10 million worth of contraceptive medications and supplies that American taxpayers already purchased for distribution in low-income countries, and that multiple organizations had already offered to take, store, ship, and distribute at no cost to American taxpayers.

Population Connection Action Fund, along with nearly 80 other organizations are calling on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to block the destruction of these supplies.

“It’s disgraceful that this administration would waste taxpayer money to incinerate contraceptives that Americans have already paid for. These contraceptives are desperately needed around the world, but instead of helping people, Donald Trump and Marco Rubio seem committed to causing needless suffering. They still have a chance to do the right thing and distribute these contraceptives rather than destroy them. We hope they will do so.”

Brian Dixon, Senior Vice President for Government and Political Affairs

The destruction of these contraceptives will cost an estimated $167,000.

In addition to the coalition’s letter, members of Congress, including leaders on the House and Senate, have voiced strong opposition to the impending senseless destruction of wanted and needed medications and supplies.
