Population Connection Action Fund Denounces Expansion of Odious Global Gag Rule

At today’s anti-abortion March for Life, Vice President JD Vance announced an unprecedented expansion of the devastating Global Gag Rule. The policy, which had already been expanded twice under Donald Trump, bans US foreign aid for groups supporting abortion services, counseling, referrals, or advocacy. Under this latest expansion, the Global Gag Rule now also blocks assistance for international and domestic organizations and agencies that support gender identity as well as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs.

Population Connection Action Fund Senior Vice President for Governmental and Political Affairs, Brian Dixon, says,

“The expansion of the odious Global Gag Rule announced by the administration today is just the latest in a long line of disgraceful actions over the past year.

“It weaponizes all foreign assistance in furtherance of JD Vance’s creepy obsession with other people’s childbearing decisions. The elimination of support for family planning across the United States and around the world, and the imposition of disastrous policies like the Global Gag Rule, is causing unnecessary suffering and undermining decades of progress in improving maternal and child health, reducing poverty, and promoting stability.

“We know that access to contraceptives and safe abortion is essential to a woman’s health, autonomy, and economic security. So does JD Vance, and that’s why he’s working so hard to eliminate it.”
